~*♥Blog Tour with Review♥*~ TWIST (Dive Bar Series #2) by Kylie Scott

From New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott comes the second sizzling stand-alone novel in the Dive Bar series! When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot bearded bartender Joe Collins only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her. Alex Parks is funny, fascinating, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman—except that she lives across the country. Soon they're emailing up a storm and telling each other their deepest, darkest secrets...except the one that really matters. When Alex pays Joe a surprise visit, however, they both discover that when it comes to love, it's always better with a twist.

“I wanted to talk to you a bit more about what happened between us online,” he said, his mouth a serious straight line. “How I came to use my brother’s profile.” Ugh. “I’m pretty sure I found out everything I needed to know last night.” “I didn’t mean to lie to you, Alex.” “Once is a mistake.” I crossed my legs, kicking my black leather bootie back and forth. So I was a little aggravated. Sue me. “Months’ worth of e-mails is not. You could have introduced yourself to me, Joe, told me who you really were. You chose not to. Christ, no wonder you kept putting off meeting. I should have known something was wrong.” “You’re right. I shouldn’t try to sell you excuses.” A big sigh from my “friend.” “Truth is, I’m not used to being the bad guy. Usually I’m the one cleaning up my brother’s messes.” “Lucky me.”

This book is a reminder of what got me into this author in the beginning! I fell in love with Stage Dive series and all the heroes and heroines that stemmed from it and this one was a lot of the same.

What I enjoyed most about this story was the character differences from a lot of the romances I’ve been reading as of late. We don’t have a doormat girl and we definitely don’t have a super alpha guy. Did Joe portray some of those characteristics at times? Sure. Every guy does. But there was something softer, gentler about him, that made me pretty much fall head over feet right off the jump. Sure, this book starts with an omission of truth on his part, but boy howdy does that man make up for it in spades. Then we’ve got Alex. The banter between these two, the attitude she had even if she was socially awkward and living her life more sheltered and away from people due to past experiences, was fantastic. She wasn’t typical in the slightest and honestly, I felt a kinship to her purely because of the awkwardness. I’ve lived it, still live it on the daily so it was easy to connect with her.

The steam level here was on par with the authors previous works, but it’s a steam level that’s worked into over time, the right amount of time for me personally as the reader, and not just jumped into right away between the two. Definitely worth the wait when it happens and scenes I didn’t feel the need like in some books to skim over, because they seemed to fit each moment they were brought into.

I had issues a tiny bit with the actions of both Joe and Alex toward the ending of this story. While understandable for the most part, there were elements here that I felt didn’t need to be there in order to create the right amount of drama. I think the reasons Joe gave at one point, were enough on its own. I didn’t see a need for secondary characters playing a part in it at all the way they did, but it wasn’t enough to totally turn the read around for me.

I loved this, much like I loved her earlier series and I can’t wait to see where she goes next with Dive Bar. In fact, I’m downright giddy about it.

My thanks to the author, NetGalley and all others involved in letting me read an ARC of this story. This was a journey I’m glad to have taken.
