From the bestselling author of Bad Romance (“A sexy, emotional, steamy read.”—Addison Moore) comes an edgy novel about a reformed bad boy training to be a priest and the fallen angel who makes him think twice about giving up earthly pleasures.

Growing up hard and fast on the mean streets of Chicago, Thorn McKinney didn’t have a prayer—until tragedy inspired him to join the seminary. Now the time has come to take his vows, and yet he’s haunted by the woman he can’t leave behind: his best friend’s little sister. Despite Thorn’s promises that he’d keep her safe, she’s going through hell. And now he finds himself torn between duty and desire, entranced by the seductive pull of her trusting eyes, innocent heart, and sinfully sweet curves.

Trying to let Thorn pursue his calling, Rose Gallagher has been hiding some things: namely her abusive boyfriend and her job as a stripper. But when she hits rock bottom, Thorn is there for her—and now there’s no denying the raw temptation that draws them together in their darkest moments. Rose may have found salvation in his strong arms, but she knows that Thorn must choose his own path: in the church, or in the warm embrace of a woman’s love.

I first discovered Jen McLaughlin when the Out of Line series came out, I admired her writing style with the great storylines.  I was very excited that I had the chance to read and review one of books.  I admire an author who can be crafty with their work in order for me to get lost in the fictional world.  This story is risqué, it could have gone either way.  Well it went my way, so I give this story a high five star.

ARC of Lust Is the Thorn by Jen McLaughlin provided in exchange for an honest spoiler free review.

Thorn and Rose have been in each other's lives for a very long time.  They grew up underprivileged, rough, hard and poor.  One tragedy will change their lives forever.  Thorn will join the seminar by wanting to be a priest in order to help others that are less fortunate.  He made a promise to himself to be better.   Rose was not so lucky, she does what she can with what she has.  Then one night, Rose will be violated and Thorn will step up to help her out.  Old feelings will come out.  Will Thorn be able to let go and finally take his vows?

This story has nothing to do with religion at all, which I'm kind of glad.  It's just about 2 people who need to make changes and choices.  I love the concept, great storyline with a seamless plot.  It was so intriguing and entertaining that I read it in a matter of hours.  I just couldn't seem to want to put it down.  I was just too curious to see how it would all play itself out.

Standalone told in a dual POV with a promise of an HEA.  I highly recommend this story with some of Jen's previous book as well.
