~*★Release Blitz with Review★*~ Redemptive (Combative #2) by Jay MacLean

Blurb

It's said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die.
It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.

The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.

When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van—it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

Holy WOW!!!  What did I just read?  I never knew who to trust and who not too.  Characters I didn't really like before but now I'm not so sure anymore.  This is one twisted story with no end in sight.  This is a romantic suspense where I was stuck in a web of deceit.  Some lights were shed on some of the questions I had but ended up with more questions than answers at the end of book 2.

Highly addicting, intriguing suspenseful love story of some sort.  I'm left speechless with a jaw dropping, eyes popping WTF moment.  Jay kept me reading for hours because I wanted answers.  This original, creative story comes out of a well-crafted imagination.  A story so twisted and raw.

Redemptive cannot be read without having read Combative first.  This is the second instalment in this trilogy.  Redemptive doesn't pick up where Combative left off.  The first book had a multitude of key players in the development of the story.  Some I had no idea why they were even there, but I soon realized this is the mysteriousness of these books.  Each characters play an important role all around.  I await patiently for book 3.

This is not a standalone but part 2 of 3.  Told in a dual POV.  It's twisted but not dark.  It has just the right amount of darkness to it.  I highly recommend this series.  All of Jay's previous titles are worth your precious time and money.  You can refer to my Combative review if it would help because I want to keep it as spoiler free as I possibly can.

Usually when I have a review to write after reading a story, I jolt down notes as I read along.  But with this story I just couldn't because my mind was reeling from all the cryptic, mysteriousness of all these many twists and turns.  My mind was all over the place.  Jay played mind games with me.  There was so many things going on that at first I was like “What the heck", but as the story progresses some of the mystery fell into place, but not much because it ends with a BANG.

This my 5 star honest and spoiler free review for Combative by Jay McLean.

We have Ky who's in trouble with the law but in exchange for going to prison, he must help the police catch a criminal.  We get a glimpse of Ky's troubled past.  His best friend Jax, happens to be the detective in charge of the case.

Nate Deluca is the criminal that Ky needs to bring down.  But first he needs to gain his trust by doing some illegal fighting.

Ky needs to see a court mandated therapist for his anger management.  Not sure yet what role she plays in the story besides being funny and being named Cinnamon Aroma.

Madison moves in the apartment across from Ky, she befriends him.  They end up falling in love.  But here's the catch, she's hiding something big.  She's not who Ky thinks she is. (Neither do I, we need book 2 ).  Bits and pieces do come to light towards the end of book 1.  All these characters play major roles in the progress of this story.

" I saw the hurt in his eyes and I almost told him everything."
" Almost"

Jay kept me intrigued and entertained from the very first page read to the very last one.  Once I started reading this story I was hooked.  Beautifully written, excellent storyline and plotting.  It's a web of deceit that I got caught in and still am.  Jay created complex, flawed and mysterious characters.  These are the kind of stories I love to read, trust me it's that good.

It's a romantic suspense told in a dual POV with a cliff-hanger.  There are flashbacks into Ky and Jax past.  Book 2 is coming out March 8.  I was lucky enough to get an ARC which I will start as soon as I'm done with this review.  Jay is a skilled author with kick ass books that needs to be read.
