About FORGETTING AUGUST

She can forgive, but can she forget? Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn't matter that she's moved on, that she's about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can't hurt her-because he's in a coma. Except that he's not anymore. August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she's the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man. Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .

Not everyone is given a second chance in life to right the wrongs that they have done.  August Kincaid is getting a second chance to redeem himself.  He gets to bury the "Monster" he once was and try to be a better person.  After more than two years, he awakens from the coma he was in.  Now that he's awake, he has no recollection of his former life.  His only connection is through a picture he finds of a copper red haired woman.

“He was my future- and soon my past would be nothing more than a distant memory."

Avery is about to marry Ryan.  She has moved on and thinks she is finally rid of the "Monster" who has hurt her.  She tries to continue living her life the best way she can.   She receives a phone call that changes everything, August is awake.  She never truly got over him and to find closure.  August awakens a changed man, he can't grasp the fact that Avery is afraid of him and that he was portrayed a bad man.  Avery doesn't quite know what to do with this new August.

“Then we keep going.  One memory at a time"

In order for Avery to have closure from August, they need to walk through their memories together.  August needs answers only Avery can give him.  Avery is conflicted now that he is a changed man. Can she forgive August and trust him again?  Will he get his memory back and resume to be the "Monster" he once was?

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest spoiler free review.  I don't write reviews where the reader feels like he's already read the book before actually having read it.  I give it a 5 deserving, chilling star.  This is a highly intriguing story that kept me guessing till the very last page.  It's genuinely unsettling.  At first, I thought it was a classic love story with an HEA.  I was always kept with a nagging feeling that this was not the case.  It's a story involving amnesia that builds suspense and the reader has to really struggle to figure out how this story will end.  It's a great ride and thrilling mystery that ends with an ending that gave me goose bumps.  I never saw this coming.   I was hooked from the first page until the last one. It grabs your attention and won't let go.

J.L. Berg has done a remarkable job with this story.  Her ability to tell original stories is outstanding and addicting.  She's a wonderful story teller with a plot well thought out. Fantastic and remarkable characters that I will not soon forget.  Told in a dual POV.  Thought the readers should know that this is not the end.  I highly recommend this book and I also recommend her previous books too.  They are all worth your precious time and money.  I've read all of J. L. Berg’s books so far and will continue to do so.
